FaZe Clan Announces VALORANT Ignition Series Tournament in Partnership with Riot Games

FaZe Clan have announced their own Valorant tournament with the FaZe Clan Valorant Invitational. The event will take place between August 6-9 with 16 teams competing for a $50,000 prize pool.

The tournament, hosted in partnership with Riot Games, will be part of the official Valorant Ignition Series. The Ignition series is the first ever official tournament series for VALORANT.

Twelve of the 16 teams will be invited, while the remaining four spots will be determined via qualifiers for amateur teams that will take place on August 1 and 2, hosted by Nerd Street Gamers. There will a double elimination group stage on the Thursday and Friday, featuring 2 groups of 4 teams.

«We are so excited to team up with our friends at Riot and our amazing partners at Nissan and Verizon to put on this tournament,» said Jeff Pabst, chief revenue officer of FaZe Clan.

«Building our livestream business is a huge priority of ours for 2020 and beyond. We are excited to keep our momentum going in this space with the FaZe Clan VALORANT Invitational. Fans can expect a true FaZe Clan live experience chock-full of entertainment unlike any tournament the gaming community is used to seeing.»

«FaZe is a name that’s immediately recognizable across esports, and we’re thrilled to support their debut VALORANT event as well as their growth in live events,» said Matt Archambault, head of NA esports partnerships and business development at Riot Games.

«With a sizable prize pool, and hand-picked competitors, we’re confident the FaZe Clan VALORANT Invitational will not only live up to the hype, but will be yet another huge step forward for VALORANT competition in North America

Despite hosting the tournament, the FaZe Clan roster remains a mystery. The team has recently announced the addition of two new players, but two crucial spots are empty. Teams have made it a habit to treat most tournaments as tryouts, and there are certainly still some teams ironing out their rosters.

FaZe Clan’s VALORANT competitive roster currently consists of captain Jason «JasonR» Ruchelski, Corey «Corey» Nigra, Zachary «ZachaREEE» Lombardo and Jimmy «Marved» Nguyen. The team placed fourth in the T1 Showdown in late June. Sentinels won the most recent VALORANT Ignition Series event, the PAX Arena Invitational, defeating Cloud9 in the final.

The tournament will be broadcast on Twitch across FaZe Clan, Nerd Street Gamers, and VALORANT’s official Twitch channels. Nerd Street Gamers will produce the tournament behind the scenes.
